Hindi's Libraries in Hewlett is Calling Local Bookworms!

JOIN THE CAUSE: HELP FROM HOME!

January 7, 2021

Hindi's Libraries' headquarters is local in Hewlett, in the Five Towns, Long Island, New York. They collect and donate new and gently used children’s books to more than 385 organizations throughout the world.

Their Story in their Words:

"In August of 2018, our community lost an incredible human being, Dr. Hindi Krinsky, at the young age of 32. To continue Hindi's legacy, family and friends chose to build three free-standing libraries in her children's school. In order to fill these libraries, we reached out to the community for gently used books.

Within two weeks, we received approximately 500 books.

We knew then that this was going to be much bigger than just three small libraries.

Since January 2019, we have collected over 100,000 books which we've donated to more than 380 organizations throughout the world spanning across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Africa, India and Israel.

Together, we continue to share Hindi's passion for reading and love of literature with thousands of children. "

Over the last few weeks, they've received more than 10,000 books!

With minimal manpower and limited opportunities to host volunteer events, they're looking for ALL LOCAL BOOKWORMS!

In the Fall of 2020, they partnered with dozens of local volunteers to cohost our 1st Community Annual Read & Treat event. Now, with an increased demand for books in the winter months, they hope to do so again.

If you live in Hewlett or the Five Towns or on Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, anywhere nearby, you may want to help them. This may be a fun thing to do with the kids! It will also teach them about helping others!

Here's how it works:

1) Volunteers can e-mail the Hindi's Libraries team to arrange for a pick up (info@hindislibraries.com).

2) They'll prepare a few boxes of book donations and leave them outside of their Hewlett HQ. (They'll also include their dedication labels in the boxes.)

3) They'll e-mail you a list of book donation guidelines to give you an idea of what books are and aren't suitable for donation as well as labeling instructions.

4) They'll ask you to return the labeled books to their HQ within 1-2 weeks.

5) They'll take the books you've delivered and package them for our recipients. (Then you can start again if you're feeling adventurous!)

THAT'S IT!

With your assistance, they'll be able to expedite their shipments and give the #giftofliteracy to children who are in dire need of books.

What better way to start a new year than with an act of kindness you can do in your PJ's?!
