All the libraries have their own schedule. Check on their websites if you have questions. Some have virtual activities. Slowly some are opening at different stages. Always check what stage your library is in before you go.

🏫 Peninsula Library in Lawrence

• Book Returns

We now offer contact-free pickup of library materials. See more information below. Call at 516-239-3262 to schedule a pickup or email us at: ppl@peninsulapublic.org with any questions.You may now return items in the book drop in front of the library. If the book drop is full, please deposit items in the slot to the right of our front door.   • Thank you to all our patrons who have been placing orders and picking up materials using our “PPL Books to Go” service. Since we started in June we have filled thousands of bags!
  • We are happy to share some exciting news regarding our phased library reopening. In our continuing efforts to gradually and safely reopen the library, in-person appointments for browsing and borrowing materials is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 16th.
  • Patrons can request an appointment through the link on the PPL website at www.peninsulapublic.org or by calling the library at (516) 239-3262. All appointments will be for 30 minutes.
  • Patrons will be required to bring a copy of the appointment confirmation and all visitors must follow the library’s current safety protocols while on the premises and in the building, which include properly wearing a mask, sanitizing hands upon arrival and adhering to social distancing guidelines.
  • All patrons with appointments are asked to park in the front of the library and use the main entrance. Designated parking spots will be reserved for patrons with appointments only. Appointment time slots will be scheduled Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and Sundays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Each appointment can be used for up to a maximum of 4 people from the same household. We encourage you to arrive promptly and check out materials in a timely manner as a courtesy to the patrons with the next appointment slot.
  • We will also continue our “PPL Books to Go” contact-free book pickup service. All of our programming will continue virtually and will be available for 24/7 online access through our website. Please continue to return all materials in either our front curbside or parking lot book drops or the return slot at the building front entrance. No returns will be accepted inside the library. We will continue to quarantine returned items for 4 days.
  • As we move forward, the library will continue to follow New York State and other applicable guidelines and adjust our reopening phases and procedures accordingly. We thank you for your cooperation and support as we remain dedicated to providing our community with exceptional library services.

🏫 Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library

HWPL reopened September 8 for Grab & Go Borrowing only.
Masks are required at all times, and visits may not exceed 30 minutes.
Library service will be limited, there will be no seating, computers, studying, nor congregating.
Borrow your items and then enjoy them at home!   Curbside Pickup will still be available.

You may return books to the book and video drop anytime. Please do not hand them to a librarian.

9:15 - 7:45 Mon-Thurs, Fri 9:15 - 4:45, Sat 9:15 - 12:45. They have detailed instructions so please read about the details of how to order and pick up books HERE.


🏫 Henry Waldinger Memorial Library, Valley Stream

• Book Returns

The book depositiory is now open to take returns, but please do NOT overfill or leave materials on the landing. No fines will be assessed on any materials due during our closure and due dates have been extended until September 1st and beyond if necessary.

🏫 Malverne Public Library

• Book Returns

At this time we are also ready to receive books and other items you may have. For everyone’s health & safety we have some new temporary procedures for returns. Items may only be returned during the open hours listed above, the book drop will continue to be locked, we will have a box on a dolly labeled “book returns”. The items will first be quarantined for 72 hours and will taken off your record after quarantine. Be assured no fines are being accrued at this time. 516-599-0750 for questions.

• Curbside Pick Ups (“Grab & Go”)

As we begin to move forward after the NY-Pause, we are offering “Grab & Go” Lobby Service. Our temporary hours for the library and the “Grab & Go” service are Mon, Wed, Thur 9:30-7:00 & Tues, Friday and Saturday (beginning June 13) 9:30-5:00pm. We are in the building during these hours and will be providing phone and Lobby Services. Unfortunately we are not prepared for “in-building services” yet, so for now, it’s staff only. Check out the flyers for instructions on how Lobby Service will work.


🏫 Atlantic Beach Library (Long Beach Public Library)

🏫 Levi Yitzchak Library Center, Cedarhurst

Updated Policy  General Information:

  • At the current time the Library will open for returning and borrowing books only. 
  • Due to social distancing guidelines, we will be limiting the amount of people allowed into the library at a given time. Please understand there might be a wait time. 
  • Please wear a mask when entering the library
  • Please respect the social distancing guidelines when choosing new books
  • The play area is not open for children or adults.
  • At this time the library space cannot be used for reading or studying
  • Please refrain from bringing children into the library who will not be an active participant in choosing books. 
  • Babies must remain in strollers
  • Memberships will be extended 3 months from time of your subscription
  • If you are not feeling well, or someone in your house is possibly contagious, please don’t come into the library.

Returning Books

  • All library books borrowed during the months we were unable to be open, are now due to be returned. Please bring them back so others can enjoy reading them. 
  • You may return your books through the drop box or in person during hours of operation.

Queens Public Library will be expanding our available services by offering public computer appointments at select to-go locations, starting Monday, November 23. We will start taking reservations on Monday, November 16.

To make an appointment, you will be able to reserve a slot online or call the branch where you’d like to use a computer. You will also be able to print from public computers.

More information, including how to make appointments online, will be available soon on the QPL website and via email.

Locations Offering Computer Appointments Starting November 23:

*The hours at each of these locations will be:
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (with a one-hour closure from 1 to 2 p.m. for cleaning);
1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday;
12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday (with a one-hour closure from 3 to 4 p.m. for cleaning).

For your health and safety:

  • You must wear a face mask when entering and inside the building.
  • Please stay at least six feet apart from other people.
  • No browsing or seating is allowed.
  • Public computers are not available.
  • Public bathrooms are not available.

To-go service allows you to request materials in advance through our app, website, or by phone at 718-990-0728 and pick them up at the designated library. For libraries opening for to-go service on August 10, you may begin to request materials on August 4. You may also return materials to locations offering to-go service.

• Book Returns

The Library will reopen its locations for public service in stages, starting with six to eight branches where customers can make returns and pick up requested materials in a designated area of each building.

We Queens Public Libraries, along with the Brooklyn and New York public library systems, aim to start reopening our physical locations in mid-July, barring unforeseen circumstances. See details HERE.

Virtual Resume Coaches review resumes submitted by the public to the QPL Job and Business Academy. Volunteers provide tips and recommendations to strengthen content, format, and layout to help ensure that Queens residents are best prepared for the modern workforce.
